Lake City High School’s girls soccer team improved its season record to 5-1 with a decisive 2-0 victory over the Coeur d’Alene Vikings on Tuesday, as reported by cdapress.com. The Timberwolves relied on second-half offensive production to secure the win in the 6A Inland Empire League matchup at Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.
Second-Half Surge Defines Lake City Victory
The match was defined by a stark contrast between halves. Lake City failed to register a goal during the first 45 minutes, despite what head coach Matt Ruchti described as strong territorial control for the opening 30 minutes. The Timberwolves’ offense found its rhythm after halftime, capitalizing on two key scoring opportunities.
Senior Riley Brazle led the charge in the second half, finding the back of the net at the 49-minute mark. Midfielder Lila Moreau provided the assist for Brazle’s goal, breaking the deadlock and shifting momentum firmly toward Lake City. The Timberwolves extended their lead late in the contest when forward Chloe Burkholder scored an unassisted goal at the 72-minute mark, sealing the shutout.
Defensive efforts were critical on both sides of the ball. Coeur d’Alene freshman goalkeeper Maddie Oliver made 14 saves to keep her team within striking distance for much of the game. Lake City goalkeeper Savvy Spencer recorded one save in net, preserving the clean sheet that proved decisive.
Inland Empire League Standings Shift
The results from Tuesday’s slate of games have implications for upcoming weekend matchups across Kootenai County. In a separate 5A Inland Empire League contest at Sunrise Rotary Field in Rathdrum, the Lakeland Hawks defeated the Post Falls Trojans. The victory improved Lakeland’s overall record to 2-2-2 and its league standing to 1-1-2.
Lakeland’s offense was prolific against Post Falls. Senior Addi Forsman scored twice, including goals in the first minute and the 76th minute. Sophomore Sydney Thompson also contributed two goals, scoring at the 17-minute and 51-minute marks. Senior Aspen Lilliard added a goal in the 47th minute to complete the offensive output for the Hawks.
Post Falls goalkeeper made eight saves during the loss, while Lakeland’s Avah Gonzales recorded one save. The defeat drops Post Falls to an 0-3-2 overall record and 0-3-2 in league play.
