Dozens of community members, officials, and judges gathered on July 10, 2025, for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the newly expanded Kootenai County Justice Building. The four-level, 60,000-square-foot addition represented the first major expansion of court facilities since 2009.
The new wing includes three large courtrooms, chambers for judges, space for court staff and the prosecuting attorney’s office, security infrastructure, and holding cells. Idaho Supreme Court Justice Cynthia Meyer, who previously served as a judge in Kootenai County’s First Judicial District, delivered remarks in the new courtroom.
Commissioner Leslie Duncan, who had championed the project for six years, became emotional during the ceremony. She credited the American Rescue Plan Act task force with recommending the $22 million federal allocation that made the expansion financially viable.
