In February 2025, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities reduced North Idaho College’s sanction from show cause to probation, signaling meaningful progress in the college’s effort to regain good standing.
The decision came after newly elected trustees demonstrated a collaborative approach to governance that contrasted sharply with the previous board’s dysfunction. The commission acknowledged the board’s deliberate efforts to restore trust and uphold best practices.
Under probation, NIC remained fully accredited — students could receive financial aid and transfer credits without disruption. The college was given one year to complete its return to compliance with all accreditation standards.
