One Killed, One Hospitalized After Truck Crashes Into Hayden Apartment Building
A Tuesday afternoon vehicle crash into a Hayden apartment building left one person dead and another hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when a truck struck a ground-level unit along North Avalanche Road. Deputies arriving on scene discovered two elderly residents — a man and a woman — trapped beneath the vehicle.
The woman was transported to a hospital with critical injuries. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was also extracted from the vehicle and is being interviewed by deputies, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Honeysuckle Avenue near the Hayden Walmart remains closed between North Davis Street and North Reed Road while investigators process the scene.
The cause of the crash has not been publicly released. No additional information about the driver’s condition has been disclosed at this time.
