Kootenai County First Responders Host Free BBQ With Demos and Family Activities in Coeur d’Alene

Kootenai County first responders are bringing the community together today with a free outdoor BBQ event in Coeur d’Alene, featuring live demonstrations, family activities, and more than 100 local vendors — all at no cost to attendees.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Black Sheep parking lot outside Silver Lake Mall, located at 200 W Hanley Ave. It is designed to celebrate the working partnership between Kootenai County fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies.

What to Expect at the Event

Attendees can watch a Jaws of Life demonstration, see SWAT and marine vessels up close, observe the sheriff’s office drone team in action, and interact with K-9 units. A combat challenge will also be available for those looking for a hands-on experience.

Food will be provided by organizers throughout the event. No tickets are needed, and nothing is being sold by the hosting agencies.

Deputy Doug Goodman of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office described the spirit of the gathering plainly: “It’s literally just a free event that people can come to and see some amazing things and see the best of what the sheriff’s office can produce.”

Young Vendor Raises Money for Make-A-Wish Idaho

Among the more than 100 vendors participating, one story stands out. Jaxon Lupton will be selling lemonade to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Idaho, in memory of Jaicey Lupton, who received a bedroom makeover through the organization back in 2018. The lemonade stand is a personal tribute as much as a fundraiser, and it adds a meaningful layer to what is otherwise a celebration of public service.

A Showcase of North Idaho’s Public Safety Community

Events like this one offer North Idaho residents a rare chance to see the equipment, training, and personnel that Kootenai County first responders rely on every day. From the SWAT truck to the marine patrol boats used on Lake Coeur d’Alene and surrounding waterways, the displays give families a tangible look at the resources protecting their communities.

The free admission and no-ticket format reflects a straightforward goal: removing every barrier so that anyone in the Coeur d’Alene area can show up, meet their neighbors, and connect with the men and women who serve the county.

For those looking for more community events around the region this summer, Inland Classical Theater is also presenting a Marivaux comedy at Spokane’s MAC Amphitheater through June 28, offering another option for families seeking live entertainment close to home.

How to Attend

The BBQ takes place today, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Black Sheep parking lot, 200 W Hanley Ave, Coeur d’Alene — outside Silver Lake Mall. No registration, no tickets, and no cost. Families are encouraged to arrive early to catch all the scheduled demonstrations.
