The 3Cs, a Coeur d’Alene-based charitable organization with 504 members, will direct $137,000 to 28 local nonprofits this year, continuing a decades-long tradition of supporting Kootenai County causes. The organization, which traces its roots to a bowling league founded in the 1960s under the name Cancer Crusaders, recently held a meeting to finalize fund distribution for the year.
Since its inception, the 3Cs has raised and donated more than $3 million to charities throughout Kootenai County, supporting organizations that serve children, veterans, and other vulnerable populations. According to member Mary Ann Herston, “We cover a niche that other charities do not,” reflecting the group’s targeted approach to filling gaps in the local charitable landscape.
How the 3Cs Raises Funds
The organization sustains its giving through multiple revenue streams, including member dues, fundraising events hosted by the Coeur d’Aleers singing group, an annual fashion show, and luncheons. This diversified model has allowed the 3Cs to maintain consistent charitable contributions despite economic fluctuations affecting the broader nonprofit sector.

The 3Cs will host its annual appreciation lunch on August 21 at the Best Western Plus Coeur d’Alene Inn, an event that recognizes member contributions and celebrates the year’s charitable accomplishments.
