The Coeur d’Alene City Council is scheduled to take up two resolutions involving municipal water well properties at its meeting Tuesday evening, with votes that could commit hundreds of thousands of dollars toward expanding the city’s water infrastructure.
One resolution would authorize the purchase of property surrounding the Locust Well, currently owned by the Coeur d’Alene School District. Under the proposed agreement, the district would receive $155,000 drawn from Water Department Capital Fee Funds, along with a Parks Department food trailer valued at $30,000 — bringing the total transaction to $185,000.
The council will also consider authorizing suitability testing at a second site, located at 632 E. Borah Ave. If testing confirms the location is viable for a future well, the council would then weigh purchasing that property from the school district for $195,000.
Both actions reflect the city’s ongoing effort to secure water supply capacity as Coeur d’Alene continues to grow. Decisions around city infrastructure and land acquisition have drawn increased public attention as Kootenai County’s political landscape evolves heading into future election cycles.
Tuesday’s meeting is set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library Community Room. The well site votes are among several items on the evening’s agenda.
