Coeur d’Alene police officers assisted school officials in taking a student into custody at Venture Academy on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a brief safety hold at the North Idaho campus. The Coeur d’Alene School District confirmed that all students and staff remained safe during the incident.
Safety Hold Lifted Quickly
The school initiated a safety hold to restrict movement within the building while law enforcement secured the situation. Officials lifted the lockdown measure after approximately five minutes, allowing normal operations to resume. The Coeur d’Alene Police Department responded to assist the on-site School Resource Officer in managing the disturbance.
Policy Violation Led to Detention
District administrators approached the student at roughly 12:30 p.m. regarding a violation of school policy. According to a letter from the Coeur d’Alene School District office, the interaction escalated when the student became combative. The School Resource Officer subsequently detained the individual before police arrived to take custody.
Privacy Protections Limit Details
School officials stated they are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the detention. However, specific details regarding the student’s identity or the nature of the policy violation were withheld. The district cited the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act as the reason for limiting public disclosure.
“To protect student privacy under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, we cannot share additional details about the student involved or the circumstances,” the school district stated in its official communication regarding the Wednesday incident.
