A Hayden, Idaho man is currently jailed at the Kootenai County Jail and faces a first-degree murder charge stemming from the death of a Centralia, Washington woman — a case in which the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office played a key role in bringing the suspect into custody, according to reporting by chronline.com.
Victim Found After Welfare Check
Patricia Marceaux, 55, was found dead on August 5 inside her home on the 1200 block of Marion Street in Centralia after she failed to show up for work and a welfare check was requested. An autopsy confirmed she died from multiple gunshot wounds, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators identified Douglas Bowen, 56, as the suspect. Bowen is a Hayden resident who had previously lived in Lewis County, Washington. Flock camera data confirmed that a vehicle connected to Bowen made a trip from Idaho to Washington and was present in Marceaux’s neighborhood at the time of her death.
Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Connects the Cases
The cross-state investigation accelerated when the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office reached out to Centralia detectives while separately pursuing a June 2026 homicide inquiry of their own. That contact proved pivotal. On August 12, Centralia detectives traveled to Hayden, and the following day, the Kootenai County Regional SWAT Team stopped and detained Bowen.
Bowen was arrested in Idaho on two counts of felon in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of a destructive or explosive device. Investigators then executed search warrants on his residence, vehicle, and storage unit, seizing at least one firearm during those searches.
On August 26, Centralia detectives returned to Idaho to conduct a follow-up interview with Bowen. The Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office subsequently obtained a warrant charging him with first-degree murder in Marceaux’s death.
Extradition Expected in Coming Weeks
Bowen remains held at the Kootenai County Jail while extradition proceedings move forward. He is expected to be transferred to the Lewis County Jail in Washington within the coming weeks to face the murder charge. The Centralia Police Department, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, and the Washington State Patrol all contributed to the investigation.
