New NIC Trustees Elected in November as Accreditation Fight Continues

Kootenai County voters elected a new slate of trustees to the North Idaho College board in November 2024, a vote widely seen as a referendum on the governance crisis that had plagued the institution for four years.

The newly elected trustees pledged to work collaboratively with college leadership and the accrediting body to restore NIC to good standing. The previous board majority, whose actions had triggered the accreditation sanctions, was largely replaced.

The election results were seen as a pivotal turning point for the college. The accrediting commission had repeatedly cited board dysfunction as the primary obstacle to NIC meeting accreditation standards, and a cooperative board was considered essential to resolving the crisis before the April 2025 deadline.
