In a decision announced in July 2023, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities opted to extend North Idaho College’s show-cause sanction rather than revoke its accreditation. The decision was described as neutral — maintaining the status quo while giving the college until April 2025 to return to compliance.
The commission acknowledged progress in several areas, including the development of procedures for evaluating the college president. However, it identified nine areas where NIC remained out of compliance with accreditation standards and recommended specific steps to address governance dysfunction.
NIC President Nick Swayne described the outcome as a chance to continue building toward full compliance. Students would continue to receive financial aid and transfer credits while the college worked to resolve its remaining issues.
