This stability comes even as Post Falls Water District pumped 2.35 billion gallons of water during 2025, and Coeur d’Alene’s water demand surged to 37.5 million gallons on a single day in August 2026—the peak consumption month in the city.
Post Falls Water Infrastructure Handling Seasonal Swings
Post Falls Water District manages water delivery to the city through a network that includes 10 active wells, one booster station, four reservoirs holding 5.5 million gallons of capacity, and 128 miles of water line, all maintained by nine employees. The district’s water consumption fluctuates dramatically between seasons: winter usage averages 2 million gallons per day, while summer usage climbs to 14 million gallons per day. Peak yearly consumption occurs from late June through early September, with the highest demand occurring between 4 and 7 a.m.

Yearly peak usage occurs between May and September.
Greenacres reports a water loss percentage of 4.72%, a metric that reflects leakage and system inefficiencies. During winter months, a single 200-horsepower well supplies the district’s demand, allowing the larger wells to remain offline during lower-consumption periods.
