A 63-year-old Rathdrum man died Wednesday afternoon in a collision on U.S. Highway 95 near Plummer when his motorcycle struck a turning vehicle. The crash occurred around 2:40 p.m. as the motorcyclist, riding north on a 2026 Honda, was unable to avoid a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee turning east onto Seltice Avenue, according to Idaho State Police.
The Jeep driver, a 25-year-old Plummer woman traveling south on the highway, was released from the scene without injury. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of impact. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet but was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash forced U.S. Highway 95 to close intermittently for approximately three hours while emergency responders worked at the scene and investigators examined the circumstances. Idaho State Police are continuing to investigate the collision.
The Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police, Plummer Police Department, and Benewah County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance at the scene.
The fatality marks another serious crash on the heavily traveled corridor through North Idaho. Motorcyclists have been involved in several fatal accidents on U.S. 95 in recent months, underscoring safety concerns on the highway that connects Coeur d’Alene and the Panhandle to communities south toward Lewiston.
