The Coeur d’Alene girls golf team captured the team title and established a new school record at the Mike McCready Invitational in McCall, Idaho. As first reported by cdapress.com, the Hawks finished with a total score of 304 on Tuesday at Jug Mountain Ranch Golf Course, outpacing the field to secure the championship.
Wilson Leads Girls’ Medalist Performance
Coeur d’Alene junior Ella Wilson anchored the victory by earning individual medalist honors. Wilson carded an even-par 72 to lead her team on a challenging layout known for its difficulty. The performance helped the Hawks finish eight strokes ahead of second-place Rocky Mountain from Meridian.
Rocky Mountain has dominated the state landscape recently, winning the last six state titles. However, Coeur d’Alene’s execution on this day proved superior. Coach Jeff Lake praised the team’s discipline in navigating the course conditions.
“The girls were awesome today, setting a school team record with a 304,” Lake told the Coeur d’Alene Press. “Jug Mountain is a very difficult course and the girls did a great job of executing our plan of keeping things simple and not compounding mistakes.”
Mountain View Boys Claim Team Crown
In the boys’ competition, Mountain View Mavericks took the team title with a score of 279. Mason McGee of Mountain View earned individual medalist honors with a seven-under-par 65.
The Coeur d’Alene boys finished ninth in the field with a team score of 344. The Hawks faced stiff competition from several Idaho powerhouses. Rocky Mountain posted a team score of 294, while Bishop Kelly shot 302 and Eagle recorded 310. Other notable finishes included Meridian at 315, Boise at 316, and Owyhee at 318.
Individual scores for the Coeur d’Alene boys included Drew Murrell with an 80, Maxwell Gage with an 85, Kellan Christensen with a 94, Damon Mysse with an 88, and Kalevi Hakkarainen with a 91.
Next Stop: Lewiston Invitational
The Coeur d’Alene golf program will look to build on this momentum when they travel to Bryden Canyon Golf Course in Lewiston. The Hawks are scheduled to compete in the Lewiston Invitational on September 16.
