Hayden Lake House Fire Spreads to Hillside, Draws Multi-Agency Response

Fire engine responding

A three-story home near Waverly Loop in Hayden Lake went up in flames Friday evening, triggering a coordinated response from multiple firefighting agencies and aerial crews before the blaze was brought under control. Firefighters were alerted to the structure fire at approximately 5:40 p.m. and arrived to find the home fully engulfed.

Fire Climbs Hillside Above the Home

The blaze did not stay contained to the structure. Flames spread up the hillside above the home, igniting a wildland fire that required additional resources. The Northern Lakes Fire Protection District responded alongside crews from the Idaho Department of Lands, and aerial units were deployed to address the fire from above.

Despite the dual threat — a fully involved three-story structure and an active wildland fire moving uphill — crews managed to contain the damage to the single residence. No additional homes were reported as damaged.

What Comes Next

The cause of the fire had not been publicly released as of this report. Officials from Northern Lakes Fire Protection District and the Idaho Department of Lands had not announced the fire’s origin or whether any injuries occurred. Residents near Waverly Loop in Hayden Lake should expect continued activity in the area as crews assess the hillside and monitor for any hot spots.

This latest public safety incident adds to a string of emergencies across Kootenai County in recent weeks. Authorities are also investigating a homicide on East Hope Avenue near Post Falls, and a Rathdrum teen died following a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 41.
