POST FALLS, Idaho — The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide after deputies found an elderly woman dead inside a home in an unincorporated area near Post Falls on Friday evening.

According to KCSO, deputies were dispatched at about 7:15 p.m. on June 12 for a welfare check in the 2900 block of East Hope Avenue, roughly a mile north of Post Falls High School. The person who requested the check told authorities they had not seen the woman, a resident of the home, for several days.

Deputies reported observing what they described as suspicious circumstances outside the residence. Family members provided keys, and once inside, deputies located a deceased adult female who appeared to be the victim of a homicide, the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives responded to the scene and worked overnight processing evidence and pursuing leads. The investigation remains active.

KCSO has not released any information about a suspect or whether one has been identified. The agency said some details are being withheld intentionally to protect the integrity of the investigation. The victim’s identity is also being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

This is a developing story and will be updated as official information is released.
