Kootenai County Court Sets Hearings for Name Changes

Kootenai County District Court has scheduled upcoming hearings for three individuals seeking legal name changes, alongside notices regarding estate administrations and a civil lawsuit filed by a credit union in October 2026. These filings represent routine civil matters processed through the local judicial system in North Idaho.

Name Change Petitions

Sunrise Nightsky Bravery Norris has petitioned the court to change their name to Sunrise Nightsky Boy Sunset. The filing, designated as Case No. CV28-26-6777, states that the requested change is intended to honor family members. A hearing for this matter is set for 1:30 p.m. on October 26, 2026, at the Kootenai County Courthouse.

In a separate case, Kyler Robert Brabeck has filed to change his name to Kyler Robert Capaul-Brabeck under Case No. CV28-26-70185. The petition indicates the purpose of the change is to add his mother’s last name to his legal identity. The court has scheduled a hearing for this request at 1:30 p.m. on November 2, 2026.

Trisha Marie Simmons also seeks a name change, petitioning to become Trish Marie Phay in Case No. CV28-26-7011. According to the filing, Simmons is dropping her divorced surname. The notice further explains that an adult daughter is filing for the same new surname. Like Brabeck, Simmons’ hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on November 2, 2026.

Estate Administration Notices

The court has issued notices regarding the appointment of personal representatives for several estates, establishing deadlines for creditors to file claims.

Michael O. Blevins was appointed as the Personal Representative of the Estate of Ernest L. Blevins in Case No. CV28-26-7163. Theron J. De Smet is listed as the attorney for Blevins. Creditors with claims against the estate must present them within four months of the first publication of the notice or face being barred from doing so.

In Case No. CV28-26-6671, a personal representative was appointed for the Estate of Judith Stebbins. Ellis E. Eifert serves as the attorney for the applicant in this matter. The filing specifies that claims against Stebbins’ estate must be presented within five months of the first publication or they will be barred.

Cassandra Jane Campbell has been appointed as the personal representative of the Estate of Donald James Campbell, Case No. CV28-26-7130. Robert Montgomery is the attorney representing Campbell. Similar to the Blevins estate, claims against the Campbell estate must be filed within four months of the first publication or they will be barred.

Civil Litigation

Spokane Teachers Credit Union has initiated a lawsuit against Cory A. Hippenstiel in Case No. CV28-26-3771. The credit union is seeking a money judgment from Hippenstiel, marking another civil dispute entering the Kootenai County court docket this month.
