Two women from Washington state were taken into custody early Sunday morning after Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office deputies uncovered roughly 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine inside their vehicle at a Post Falls gas station on June 8.
Deputies made initial contact with the vehicle’s occupants around 2 a.m. at a gas station on the 5200 block of West Riverbend Avenue. That encounter was consensual, according to authorities. During the interaction, deputies noticed what appeared to be illegal drugs and paraphernalia in plain sight inside the vehicle, giving them probable cause to conduct a full search.
The search turned up methamphetamine stashed in multiple locations throughout the vehicle. Among the items recovered was a bag labeled “Smelly Proof” that contained several plastic bags filled with the drug. Marijuana was also found during the search.
Significant Drug Volume Recovered
The total methamphetamine seized weighed approximately 1.5 pounds — a quantity that indicates distribution rather than personal use. Both women were arrested at the scene.
Drug trafficking along the Interstate 90 corridor in North Idaho has remained a persistent concern for law enforcement. Kootenai County’s position as a major transit route between Washington state and the Idaho Panhandle makes Post Falls a frequent location for narcotics interdiction efforts.
