Kootenai County Sheriff Warns Residents About Door-to-Door Driveway Scam

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is alerting North Idaho residents to a driveway resurfacing scam that has returned to the area, warning that a door-to-door crew is quoting low prices upfront — then presenting a final bill four times higher than the original estimate.

How the Scam Works

The scheme follows a pattern seen in Kootenai County previously. A crew approaches homeowners offering driveway resurfacing services at an attractively low cost. Once the work is completed, the final bill far exceeds what was initially quoted. When residents dispute the inflated charges, the crew reportedly resorts to bullying tactics to pressure payment.

A similar group has recently been reported operating in Kootenai County, prompting the Sheriff’s Office to renew its public warning before more residents are targeted.

What Kootenai County Residents Should Do

Anyone who has been approached by this group or believes they may have been victimized is urged to contact the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office at 208-446-1300. Residents are encouraged to be cautious with any unsolicited door-to-door contractors, get all pricing in writing before work begins, and verify a company’s credentials and references independently before agreeing to services.
