The Lakeland Hawks volleyball team opened Inland Empire League play with a victory over the defending 5A champions, as first reported by cdapress.com. The Hawks defeated the Lewiston Bengals in four sets Tuesday night at Hawk Court in Rathdrum, improving their season record to 5-4.
Lakeland Overcomes Early Set Loss
Lewiston entered the match carrying momentum from last year’s league title, taking the opening set 25-22. However, Lakeland responded with three consecutive set wins—25-15, 25-22, and 25-15—to secure the league-opening victory.
Senior Jolie Warren led the Hawks’ offensive effort with 12 kills, four blocks, and four aces. Anabel Bowie contributed nine kills and four blocks, while Kindell Day distributed 20 assists from the setter position. Jaeli Hoffman added 18 assists and four aces, helping control the tempo of the match.
Defensively, Emma Beaty recorded 23 digs for Lakeland. Shasta Ackerman made key plays from the service line and in defensive coverage, while Maddi Justesen played aggressively throughout the contest.
Kootenai County Volleyball Results
In other North Idaho action, the Kootenai Falcons defeated the Coeur d’Alene Vikings 25-17, 25-23, 28-26. The victory improved Kootenai’s standing while dropping Coeur d’Alene to an 11-3 record.
Coeur d’Alene senior Hannah Shafer reached a significant milestone during the match, recording 17 assists to reach her 1,000th career assist. Jovie Le led the Vikings’ offense with nine kills, while Eva Callari added eight kills, 12 digs, and an ace. Embree McKeown made 18 digs for Coeur d’Alene, and Emily Hackett distributed 12 assists. Marly Sutich and Brielle Basson each recorded one block.
The Vikings will travel to Rockford, Washington, this Saturday to compete in the Freeman Rip-A-Shot Tournament. They also face a league matchup against Lakeland on Thursday.
Lake City and Spirit Lake Victories
The Lake City Timberwolves defeated the Sandpoint Bulldogs 25-18, 15-25, 25-19, 25-18 at Les Rogers Court. The win improved Lake City’s record to 4-1.
Senior Kate Moglia led Lake City with five kills, 25 assists, and four aces. Camryn Woodman added 11 kills, nine digs, and a block. Sonia-Rei Fong recorded 26 digs and two aces, while Alaina Freed contributed four kills and five blocks.

In nonleague play, the Spirit Lake 3A Wildcats swept the Timberlake 4A Tigers 25-11, 25-14, 25-12. The victory improved Kellogg’s record to 4-0, while Timberlake fell to 4-6.
Spirit Lake senior Paige Yrjana led the Wildcats with nine kills and nine digs. Gretah Angle added seven kills and eight digs, while Laine Smith recorded five kills. Hadley Bush contributed five blocks, and Jordyn Stutzke made nine digs. Ella Yrjana added eight digs and four aces.
Bella Schillereff and Valynn Visintainer each led nine-point service runs for Spirit Lake. On the Timberlake side, Addie Archer recorded eight kills and nine digs. Sidnie Thompson made 10 digs and two aces, while Layla Webb added three kills and four blocks. Jordyn Parke distributed seven assists and made eight digs, and Willow Mattson had seven assists and five digs.

Lakeland faces Coeur d’Alene on Thursday in league play. Lake City also plays Post Falls on Thursday before heading to Idaho Falls for weekend tournament competition. Coeur d’Alene travels to Washington state for the Freeman Rip-A-Shot Tournament on Saturday.
